I have an essay to get done today... however my mind is elsewhere. Last night we (the house, -Dan who's away) had a game of Age of Empires. we started at 10 I gave up and resigned at 2. I like the game, its just boring sometimes, plus I ended up conversing on msn in the middle... the conversations I've had with people the last 2 days have been the weirdest, most confusing yet.. but things are at least somewhere I can go from.

I figured id do a bit of work on my site this morning as I work best essay wise late afternoon/evening/night, which is cool cause it means that if I do something with my day outside of those times I don't feel guilty cause actually I'm more productive later.

I've been listening to a lot of fairly different songs recently- most notably, the albums (which I fully intend to buy) 'Stripped'- Christina Aguilera. Heh, I've been dissed for this more times than I care to mention in the last couple of days, but the girl really can sing, and the rest of the album, i.e. not the released songs from it, are absolutely class- very soulful, with possibly a touch of Mariah Carey syndrome (ask if you want to know), but not enough to ruin it.
The second is 'Origins- Evenescence' Its different to Fallen, and to honest, I'm getting a little tired of Amy Lee's voice, but that's partly due to evenescence being played EVERYWHERE at the moment. As far as I know this album hasn't been released in the UK yet, but I will purchase it. In some ways its darker, but lighter. Cryptic I know... but :)
I've also been introduced recently to a guy called Rufus Wainwright who I'm quite liking at the moment- apparently one of his songs- 'Hallelujah' was featured in 'Shrek' but while I don't remember it, it is an amazing song!

So yeah, I wasn't intending to do a li'l music review for you, but never mind! I will say one thing on the back of that though, and that's where I stand with the whole piracy/mp3/P2P thing. Yes I have Kazaa installed on my PC, and yes there are some songs on my pc that I haven't purchased (yet)- HOWEVER these songs fall into 2 categories. The first is a song/album I'm thinking about buying and want to listen to before spending, what for me is a considerable amount of money on an album, and the second is the very occasional song which I really like which is either the only song on an album ill ever listen to .'. refuse to pay £15 quid to listen to, or its not available on CD for whatever reason. The rest of the music on my PC I own on CD (either here or at my parents house, as I left a lot of my CD collection at home when I moved out, and as far as I'm aware, as long as you aren't sharing those files (which I don't) you are allowed to have a backup copy on another media, mine is PC cause I have an mp3/cd player which means I can get 10 hours of music on a CD rather than take 6 albums out with me.

so yeah, im hoping that i can get the site up today- it will be a little bare to start with... but it will soon grow- definately over christmas. Might even add a REVIEW section to it, add gigs and stuff :)
i dunno....
anyhow i wanna be starting essay at 4pm so id best go.

My black backpack's stuffed with broken dreams
20 bucks should get me through the week
Never said a word of discontentment
Fought it a thousand times but now
I'm leaving home

Here in the shadows
I'm safe
I'm free
I've nowhere else to go but
I cannot stay where I don't belong

Two months pass by and it's getting cold
I know I'm not lost
I am just alone
But I won't cry
I won't give up
I can't go back now
Waking up is knowing who you really are

Show me the shadow where true meaning lies
So much more is made in empty eyes

GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!!!!!!!! i cant tidy that!

hehe

another random thing, cause im meant to be going over my talk for stomp tonight atm...
what happened to DARK SKIES!? why on earth did they cancel it?!?! it was the best consipracy theory show since 'tikka to ride' (red dwarf series VII) i remember watching the late night repeats on chan 4 with my mum (bout 12.30am on a weekend night as opposed to 10.30pm on a thursday (i think... deff wasnt weds cause that was ally mcbeal)) i loved that prog... wonder if anyone is planning on showing any reruns???

Australian press apologise for Pom bashing

Australian newspapers which led a vitriolic campaign against England's rugby team have apologised for knocking the World Cup winners.

The Sydney Morning Herald conceded England was the best team and that Martin Johnson and his players were not boring, as they had claimed last week.

An editorial addressed to England fans said: "Regarding your magnificent football team's 20-17 triumph in the Rugby World Cup final on November 22, on behalf of all Australians, we would like to admit the following:

"You were not too old (although we hoped you would be when the game went to extra-time). You were not too slow. You scored as many tries as we did. You kicked no more penalty goals than we did. You ran the ball as much as we did. You entertained as much as we did.

"You did it with one of your own as coach (even though he did spend some formative years playing at Manly). You are better singers than we are (and just quietly, Swing Low, Sweet Chariot is growing on us, as is Jonny without an "h").

"You played with class, toughness and grace. You were bloody superior. You are, for the first time in 37 years, winners of a football World Cup. As a result, we believe Twickenham is a most fitting home for Bill (the cup), though we humbly remind you that, unlike the Ashes, you have to hand it over if you don't win next time.

"We will no longer characterise your fans as beer-swilling, pot-bellied louts or knife-wielding hooligans and try to remember the sporting and enthusiastic supporters who did so much to make the final memorable."

Sydney's Daily Telegraph, which printed a voodoo doll of Jonny Wilkinson and issued 'Stop Jonny' T-shirts, also apologised. An editorial said: "Jonny is unstoppable. To ignore his greatness would be unconscionable."

okay im hopefully coming out of my shell a bit now, and there might be a couple of people thinking that they deserve the credit for it, well, you dont. i apologise if that sounded harsh, i think it may well have done, but people responsible for it arent who theyd think. a bit cryptic, and if anyone goes getting offended then sorry.

Composer dies at London home

Grammy-winning and Oscar-nominated composer Michael Kamen has died at his London home at the age of 55.

He collapsed after an apparent heart attack, according to his Los Angeles-based agent Jeff Sanderson.

Kamen collaborated with a wide range of artists, from the London Philharmonic to Aerosmith, Metallica and Pink Floyd.

He also provided music for the Lethal Weapon and Die Hard films.

Although he was classically trained and studied oboe at New York's Julliard School, the composer's distinctive long, curly hair and beard made him look more like a heavy-metal guitarist than a classical conductor.

Among his most famous collaborations was on the orchestral arrangements in Pink Floyd's 1979 album, The Wall.

Kamen's most recent Grammy win came in 2001, which he shared with Metallica for best rock instrumental performance. He won for conducting the San Francisco Symphony Orchestra in the metal-rock band's song The Call of Ktulu.

His first award was in 1992 for best pop instrumental performance for the theme music to Robin Hood: Prince Of Thieves.

He also worked with singer Bryan Adams to help craft the movie theme songs Everything I Do (I Do It For You) from Robin Hood and Have You Ever Really Loved a Woman from Don Juan DeMarco.

Sunday, November 16

well... what can i say.
today i went around south yorkshire.
got back, decided to tidyt the kitchen, smashed a glass in the process.... someone had left it precariously balanced.. not me.... proceeded to stand on it in socks - didnt get a scratch..while wiping up said glass with dustpan and brush id just got by standing on glass to reach, i put my hand in some glass powder and slashe my finger which then decided to spurt blood...... so after 10 minutes of cutting off the blood supply to my hand to stop said blood finished tidying... a couple of hours later i made stew/goulash that was fine and put some turkey burgers in the frier (cvause i hadnt left enough time to oven cook) and in the prcess of looking to see if it was hot enough came into contact with the rim... so the 1cm by half cm contact burn has since spread right across my forearm and is a good 1.5 cm wide...
i need locking up. for my own safety.

other than that, stuff is getting me down.... its why im not really posting. donthave anything to say other than i feel crap... and i dont want to depress you all.... you dont deserve it.
im just gonna take a step back for a while...
specially while im taking the poison. am gonna start tomorrow. hoping i dont end up with some of the more worrying side effects.... hehe oh well.

essay to do tomorrow

ps... that post was to be about my fleeing sheffield...... oh well....

plus.... why do i end up with all the tidying when it wasnt even my idea?!?!?!
hmph! oh well... loud music and singing along it is!

|

heh. have only been up 20 mins but hey :)
good morning i guess!
been thinking about the whole introvert/extrovert thing.... its a bit of a quandry for me....
i guess most people would define me as introvert, and my personality type is INTJ but sometimes i really wonder about it. like a lot of things i dont necessarily have to consider the question very much before i say anything (going on the definition of an introvert being someone who processes/thinks internally) ask questions about me, and yeah, ill be silent for ages before i say anything, but im not necessarily thinking about it.....
another thing is is it something that is inherent in you, or is it something you develop as you grow.
i know the above may have actually just labelled me as extrovert, but i really dont know which (if any i am)
plus its another labelling thing, this time its just a label that people can feel comfortable with.

and with all that thinking....be it internal or external i just mistook my fone ringing on silent on the windowsill to be someone using a pneumatic drill outside somewhere....... :S
grrr bbiam
it was abbie. so scratch the grrrr.... shes gonna come up to jacks with us and meet us there, as i wont be at home by the time she arrives, however, i need to do some tidying, so im gonna have to leave ya anyhow. need to make this room able to fit possibly three extra people in here to sleep.... either that or downstairs :)
and i dont know what time chris is arriving... joys of joys hopefully later cause ive got lots to do... (or hide....i think its going to be a method of tidying i hate! ie do what i can and the rest goes in a cupboard! at least i have a cupboard!)

ok... just got back from london...(well a lil while ago...)

ive been to see the darkness... they were amazing... really really good, and would have loved to have stayed in the 2nd/3rd row of the 'pit' which was where we'd ended up, but (and this was the only bad point) there were some people who insisted on spoiling it and ive now got some lovely nasty bruising to show because of it... so we relocated to the back of standing, which was good, cause i was able to lean against the sound desk caging cause at that point, the combination of having elbows in the face, ribs and base of my spine simultaneously and being crushed meant that i felt like i was going to fall over... but other than that it was really really good. they can play live- well!

it was a shame i didnt get a leaf... but never mind. there was a free bar- so we had 2 pints each.

so yeah. monday heralded ly exiting of the teenage era (ie it was my birthday) and this was met with me cooking vegetable casserole for jack, abbie, ed, chris and myself and we had a random jam and ate chocolate birthday cake, which was scrummy... drank some bitter and watched a video and pillow fighted.
best part was probably when we were jamming and we did wind of change by scorpions with 2 acoustics and 3part vox :)

im thinking about getting another acoustic when i have the money... this one with a different tone... saw one that kinda worked.... little yamaha... wouldnt be too hard to mic the soundhole i dont think so....

we also decided that apart from taking a sideline into parody writing.... (the latest being 'dont touch me- ive shaved so much') we're gonna have a loud acoustic prac sometime fairly soon- by booking into a prac room... maybe see if we can get something okayish recorded out of it.

oh speaking of recordings... saturday saw a vbenture back to that as chris had a hard disk recorder in his possession so we recorded a song... i think its brilliant... its still not quite finished but its getting there... i was on acoustic duties for it... it was very weird playing and not having to sing at all.... but it was fun, and it was nice for us all to play together again... the first time since in a while...

anyhow... if im gonna head to my lectures... (and not hand in the essay thats due today :S ) later i need to get a bit more sleep.... slept a lot today anyhow.... on the coach on the way there and on the way back... but they said that i might sleep more... but before i do....

a couple of other people have put their response on their blogs... but i will indulge you all, and apologise as i believe i began the phase of sending these round again by sending the one i posted a little while ago to joel, who then responded with the one below to myself and miriam amongst others, who then passed it on.... so anyone who hates these im sorry!

Wednesday, November 5

ok. well ive now got 2 letters from the hospital.
one is the official letter to doctors with like numbers and terminology on it. was interesting reading and nice to know exactly what they ended up testing me for and the results in comparison to 'normal'.

am at the genetisists again tomorrow. shes nice and straight talking so should be okay.

|

Tuesday, November 4

hmmm... please ignore last post... (y) it really shouldnt have posted! i was seeing if the broadband was still up... hehe

well ive now finished my essay and got it in. it took an early rise at 5.30 to ensure i did it, but 2 cappucinos later im still here.
busy day today. im s pending m spare hour or so on this keyboard, being unable to type whilst killing some time waiting to go meet rich re. thursday, and then off to parents house to get a guitar and then to small grp, i prolly wont stay for ages as ive a good hour of sleep to catch up on as well as a tutorial assignment for fourfold gospel to do and then tomorrow is fourfold gospel lecture, band prac and then chris' buffday celebration.
I find it really amusing that here at uni we have nice TFT monitors and really untypable on keyboards.
anyhow. ive got more of an idea on the essay that i need to do for next tueday (3000 words on articles on historicity and israeli/palestine conflict)
anyhow going now

|

Monday, November 3

well.. ive done the hardest thihng and actually started my essay.... a visit from someone meant that i didnt get as much done as i would have liked this afternoon, but not to worry... ive got enough cappucino to keep me going all night if need be :D

|

ok.. well i guess im feeling a little pressure from ruths blog to go and 'tell my story' but im gonna have to back down and say no to that.
there are several reasons as to why... i guess the main one... apart from needing to get onto doing this essay...is that at the moment, im really not sure where i stand with a lot of it, and there are lots of reasons for that- too many to go into really, but one day ill let you know... for or against i guess (and dont read anything into that people because there isnt anything drastic in there).

one thing i have noticed recently a fair bit is things that i do or ways that i act and the reasons why... not really for any huge reason other than i have done.. like the fact that im really introvert and stuff (and yeah im aware that im not always by anymeans) when i get into a group situation and/or i have to actually speak in front of people, and other random things like that... i guess me not wanting to talk bout the above subject is kinda linked in with all of that - its another reason.

anyway. essay and imminant arrival of someone else coming to study too means im gonna leave and get on with things. may well post later.

take care y'all/.
sara

|

hmmm... well... i went to see status quo last night... they rocked! less said bout the support band the better, although not wishing to make it seem like im making my own head swell, ed and i could have done way better with no practice... like 2 acoustic guitars?? bring it on!
then jack came back for a chat and we ended up eating pizza and ice cream and stuff and jack stayed over, so no real pressure to get up in the morning.. then today i had another singing lesson with becky- she's good... after three lessons she's really come on in confidence and has no problem holding her own part at all... we've nailed 2 songs and she's on some quite difficult scales and excercises... props go out to her for that :) im liking our little arrangement though, and i think its going to work well. dunno if ive already said this but im giving her singing lessons, and sh'es giving me piano lessons, which is brilliant for me, cause she's a really good teacher, and ive always wanted to learn the piano, but i think its something that i actually need to be taught as opposed to teaCHing myself.
what else?? well im just checking up and updating stuff and then its onto my essaY for tomorrow... and no i havent procrastinated and left it to the last minute...
its planned, just needs formatting and writing up now that i have 3 paintings. it should take 3 hours max. also this week... ive got a three thousand word essay to write, which should be ok.. just a hard topic. and then wednesday WE HAVE A PRACTICE!!!! im really excited about it, as it should be really good.
also needing to go home and get my guitar... prolly tuesday eve before small group i reckon. wednesday is also chris' birthday, and its been nice to see a bit more of him recently.
thursday also sees STOMP starting again. and me going to see the genetisist as well... should have some time to chill towards the weekend unless ive forgotten something huge...
so yeah. lil update for you.
oh and my site is almost up and running... will have the new design/links soon... my blog is going to have the same design and links to from.. working on some of the final stuff going on and then sorting out hosting etc... which should be fine.
